Tobermory 12 Year Old is the flagship expression from the only distillery on the Isle of Mull, founded in 1798 in the brightly coloured harbour town of Tobermory on Scotland's west coast. The distillery produces two distinct styles of whisky under one roof: unpeated spirit released under the Tobermory name, and heavily peated spirit released as Ledaig, both reflecting the island's rugged, maritime character. This unpeated 12 Year Old is matured in a combination of American and European oak, predominantly ex-bourbon casks with a portion of sherry cask influence, producing a golden-amber whisky with a distinctly coastal, fruit-driven character. On the nose, expect citrus, malt, sea salt and light floral notes; the palate offers orchard fruit, honey, a gentle brininess and soft spice, finishing clean, moderately long and lightly maritime. Bottled at 46.3% ABV without chill filtration, the 12 Year Old showcases Tobermory's lighter, more elegant side, offering a genuine contrast to the smoky Ledaig releases from the same stills. Tobermory has built a growing following among single malt enthusiasts drawn to its island provenance, distinctive dual-identity production and consistently well-reviewed core range, making this 12 Year Old both an accessible entry point and a distinctive addition to any island whisky collection.
