The Botanist Gin 1.5 L LC

The Botanist Islay Dry Gin, presented here in a 1.5 litre magnum format, is distilled by Bruichladdich on the island of Islay using an unusually patient and painstaking process. Rather than relying solely on bought-in botanicals, The Botanist's makers forage 22 native Islay botanicals by hand from the island's fields, hedgerows and shoreline, adding them to nine classic gin botanicals including juniper, coriander and angelica. The mixture is slow-distilled for around 17 hours in a converted Lomond still nicknamed 'Ugly Betty', far longer than conventional gin production, allowing delicate herbal and floral notes to be drawn out gently without becoming harsh or overly concentrated. The result is a complex, herbaceous gin with juniper still at its core but layered with notes of mint, gorse flower, apple mint, heather and citrus, finishing dry and aromatic. Bottled at 46% ABV, The Botanist has become one of the most respected craft gins in the world since its 2011 launch, prized by bartenders for its versatility in classic serves such as the Martini and Gin & Tonic. The 1.5 litre format suits high-volume hospitality use or display, letting the gin's distinctive apothecary-style label and island provenance make a statement behind any bar.
