Glenfarclas 25YO

Glenfarclas 25 Year Old is a flagship expression from one of the last family-owned distilleries in Speyside, still run today by the sixth generation of the Grant family since its founding in 1836. Glenfarclas built its reputation on an unwavering commitment to sherry cask maturation, filling exclusively first-fill and refill Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez rather than blending in bourbon wood, which gives the whisky its distinctively deep, richly fruited character. Twenty-five years of ageing in these casks produces a dark amber, almost mahogany-coloured spirit with an intensely rich nose of dried fruit, dark chocolate, toffee and antique polished wood. The palate is full and sherried, with layers of raisin, orange peel, ginger, dark toffee and a gentle waft of smoke, finishing long, warm and dry with lingering spice. Bottled at 43% ABV without chill filtration or added colour beyond what the sherry casks themselves impart, the 25 Year Old sits above the widely admired 15, 18 and 21 Year Old expressions in Glenfarclas's core range. It is consistently rated among the finest sherried single malts available, valued by collectors for its consistency, its family-distillery pedigree and the increasing scarcity of well-aged, genuinely sherry-driven Speyside whisky at this age.
