Bladnoch 19 Years Old is the first PX (Pedro Ximénez) sherry cask expression the distillery has released, and the influence shows clearly: PX casks are among the sweetest and richest sherry cask types used in whisky maturation, imparting deep, dark, almost syrupy sweetness far beyond what standard oloroso sherry casks typically contribute. The result is a golden-hued whisky with delectable notes of dark liquorice, dried apricot, and warming nutmeg woven throughout. Bladnoch, Scotland's southernmost distillery, produces spirit in the gentler Lowland tradition, and this PX-driven sweetness sits atop that more delicate base character, creating a whisky that balances Lowland elegance with genuine dessert-wine richness. Expect a nose of dark dried fruit and liquorice sweetness, with warming spice and a faint nuttiness developing alongside. The palate continues that rich, sweet profile, combining dried apricot and dark liquorice with nutmeg and other warming spice, all carried on a smooth, syrupy texture typical of well-executed PX maturation. The finish is long, sweet, and warmly spiced, closing on lingering liquorice and dried fruit. This makes an excellent after-dinner dram for drinkers who enjoy sherry-forward Scotch, and its status as Bladnoch's first PX release adds genuine historical interest for collectors following the distillery's evolving cask programme.
