Arran Quarter Cask 70CL

Arran Quarter Cask takes advantage of a maturation technique the distillery has become known for: ageing whisky in smaller quarter casks rather than standard barrels, which increases the ratio of wood surface area to liquid and accelerates the extraction of flavour from the oak. The result is a single malt with noticeably more intense wood-driven character than would typically be expected from its age, delivering rich vanilla, coconut, and tropical fruit notes that might otherwise take considerably longer to develop in full-size casks. On the nose, expect a concentrated blast of vanilla and coconut, backed by ripe tropical fruit — think pineapple and mango — and a warm, spicy oakiness. The palate follows through on that promise, with intense vanilla sweetness, toasted coconut, and tropical fruit layered over a solid oak backbone, finishing with moderate length on lingering vanilla and spice. This is a whisky that showcases Arran's willingness to experiment with maturation technique to build flavour and complexity quickly, making it a genuinely interesting bottle for whisky drinkers curious about how cask size affects flavour development. Best enjoyed neat to fully appreciate the intensity of the wood influence, it also stands up well in cocktails that call for a whisky with real backbone, such as a whisky sour or a spiced Old Fashioned.
